Meeting Point — Downtown Bogotá

We meet at an agreed downtown location — your hotel lobby or a central landmark nearby. From here, we head directly to Monserrate before the crowds arrive.

Monserrate — The City from Above

We ascend by cable car or funicular using VIP tickets, arriving at the summit of the 3,152-meter mountain that has stood watch over Bogotá for centuries. The church, the pilgrims, the stories of why this mountain is sacred to the city — and the view that puts everything into perspective before the day even begins.

Lunch — Your Choice, Our Recommendation

Back in the city, we head to lunch at a restaurant suited to your tastes. Whether you want a bowl of classic ajiaco bogotano, a contemporary Colombian tasting menu, or something in between, we know the right place. Take your time — this is where the morning settles in and the afternoon gets planned.

Museo del Oro — The Legend of El Dorado

The Gold Museum houses over 55,000 pieces of pre-Columbian goldwork — the largest collection in the world. But this is not just a museum visit. It is the origin story of El Dorado, told through the objects the Muisca people created, used in ritual, and buried to connect with their gods. Allow 60 to 90 minutes, and leave with a completely different understanding of what existed here before the Spanish arrived.

La Candelaria & Museo Botero — Where Bogotá Began

We walk through La Candelaria, the historic center where Bogotá was founded in 1538. Colonial churches, republican mansions, political murals, universities, and street vendors all share the same narrow streets. We finish at the Botero Museum, where Fernando Botero donated over 100 of his own works and his personal collection of European masters to the city — all housed in an 18th-century colonial mansion and completely free to visit.

End of Tour

The tour concludes in La Candelaria. Depending on your energy and curiosity, we can extend into a nearby neighborhood, stop for coffee, or simply wrap up with a city that feels a little less foreign than it did this morning.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can join the tour?

Total Bogotá is designed for private groups of 1 to 10 people. Whether you are traveling solo, as a couple, or with family and friends, the experience is exclusively yours — no strangers, no shared groups.

How far in advance do I need to book?

We recommend booking at least 24 hours in advance. That said, we do our best to accommodate last-minute requests depending on availability — if you are in Bogotá and want to join tomorrow, reach out and we will try to make it work.

What happens if it rains?

Bogotá weather is unpredictable, but this tour is built for it. A significant part of the day takes place indoors — the Gold Museum and the Botero Museum both offer great shelter and plenty to explore. We recommend bringing a light rain jacket and a small umbrella just in case, and we will adjust the outdoor portions of the route accordingly.

Can you pick me up at my hotel?

This is a low-intensity experience. Around 95% of the tour takes place on flat surfaces, and we move entirely at your group's pace. There are natural breaks throughout the day, including a proper lunch stop. No prior fitness level required — if you can walk comfortably for a few hours, you are more than ready.

Is La Candelaria safe?

Yes. La Candelaria is safe during the day, especially when you are with a guide and in a group. Like any historic city center, it is best explored with awareness — but daytime visits are completely normal and enjoyable for thousands of tourists every week. Your guide knows the neighborhood well and will always keep your comfort and safety in mind.

How do I pay?

You can pay your guide directly in cash at the end of the tour. We also carry a card reader if you prefer to pay by credit or debit card. If you would like to pay in advance, we can send you a secure payment link — just ask when you book.

Can I customize the tour in advance or on the day?

Absolutely — and we encourage it. When you book, someone from our team will reach out to learn about your group, your interests, and any preferences you have. Nothing is set in stone. You can also make changes on the day itself: your guide is there to make sure you have the best possible experience, not to follow a rigid script.
